The Hidden Chamber

The Hidden Chamber
A secret passage
Virginia leads her family through a concealed corridor to a locked, low room. The estate’s hidden architecture reveals that the ghost’s story has been concealed as well as repeated.
The remains exposed
They find Sir Simon’s skeleton chained to a ring, with food and water placed beyond his reach. The discovery gives physical form to a death that the family legend had reduced to mystery.
The Blossoming Almond

The Blossoming Almond
A sign of change
One of the twins sees the previously barren almond tree in bloom. Its unexpected flowers fulfill the prophecy at the moment the family learns the truth of Sir Simon’s fate.
A reading of mercy
Virginia interprets the blossoms as evidence that God has forgiven him. The sign shifts the discovery from a grim revelation toward spiritual resolution.
The Funeral Procession

The Funeral Procession
A final public rite
Lord Canterville joins the Otis family and Mrs. Umney at a solemn nighttime funeral. The event gives formal recognition to the dead man whom the household had previously encountered only as a disturbing ghost.
Rest beneath the yew
Virginia places almond blossoms on the coffin in Canterville churchyard. Moonlight and a nightingale echo Sir Simon’s description of a peaceful garden, giving his burial emotional as well as legal finality.
